Latest UCI Rankings Released: Pogačar Remains World Number One for 160 Consecutive Weeks

Tadej Pogačar has outperformed all other professional cyclists in 2024. His victories in the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, and World Championships have placed him far ahead in the UCI points rankings. As of October 14, the rankings show that the Slovenian rider's points are nearly double those of second-placed Remco Evenepoel from the Soudal-Quick-Step team.

The UCI individual world ranking is based on a rolling 12-month points window. As the season nears its end, Pogačar has maintained his position as the world number one for 160 consecutive weeks. He has accumulated a total of 11,655 points, while Evenepoel stands at 6,073 points.

Pogačar's main sources of points include: 1,300 points for winning the Tour de France, 1,100 points for winning the Giro d'Italia, and 900 points for being the world champion. Additionally, he earned 210 points for each of the six stages he won in the Tour de France and 180 points for each stage in the Giro d'Italia. He also secured 800 points each for winning the Il Lombardia and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, gained 520 points for finishing third in Milan-San Remo, and earned 500 points for winning the GP de Montréal. Furthermore, he received 400 points for his victory in Strade Bianche. Pogačar has also accumulated numerous points through other minor placements and graded races.

His astounding points total can partly be attributed to the UCI's adjustment of the points system in 2023, which reduced the weight of single-day races and placed greater emphasis on results from the Grand Tours. Nevertheless, his total points are still more than double the previous record for the highest points in a year under the new rules—set by Pogačar himself in 2021, when he accumulated 5,363 points.

Evenepoel has also had an impressive season, winning two Olympic gold medals, claiming the world championship in the time trial event, and reaching the podium in the Tour de France, Paris-Nice, and Il Lombardia, contributing significantly to his points tally.

Jasper Philipsen from the Alpecin-Deceuninck team ranks third in the individual points standings with 4,790 points.

Pogačar's team has not yet concluded the season, but their position at the top of the team points standings is already secure, as they lead the Visma-Lease a Bike team by over 16,000 points, while the Soudal-Quick-Step team has moved up to third place.

UAE Team Emirates has set a new record—according to team statistics, they have achieved 76 victories in the 2024 season with 20 different riders, the highest number since 2000. The previous record was held by Mapei-Quick-Step, with 72 wins from 23 riders.

The team rankings for 2024 will determine which professional continental teams receive automatic invitations to participate in the World Tour. Lotto and Israel-Premier Tech have secured the top two spots in the professional continental team rankings, granting them automatic wildcard entries to all World Tour races in 2025.

As the third-best professional continental team, Uno-X Mobility will receive automatic invitations to World Tour one-day races in 2025.
