Jonas Vingegaard regained the red jersey after Visma secured second place in the team time trial in Figueres, finishing eight seconds behind the winners, UAE Emirates.
Lidl-Trek had taken a strong lead early in the 24.1km race, but ultimately finished off the pace in third, a second behind Visma and nine behind Team Emirates.
Thanks to his team's efforts, Juan Ayuso rose into second place overall to finish stage five tied with his teammate Joāo Almedia. The pair are now eight seconds behind Vinegagaard.
